Project Description

LOCATED AT THE HEART OF HERITAGE SITE PORTO

PROJECT

The Porto Art´s Suites project is part of the rehabilitation of Properties of the Patrimonial  Interest of the city of Porto. It will be a perfect complement to the Porto Art’s Hotel, providing extra space and flexibility and giving a new life to the history and culture surrounding the area.

As mentioned before, Porto is a city of tradition. The tradition not only comes from Portuguese cosmopolitan crowds and costumes, the festivals, the sea, and the city’s beautiful waterfront, it also comes from the materials we use, engraved with the country’s story and tales.

The building is located in the Bonfim Urban Rehabilitation Area (A.R.U. Bonfim), which is an urban and architectural area located at the front of a unified city.

This is a piece of land covering an area of approximately  445 square meters. Inserted in a neighborhood surrounded by residents of Rua das Fontaínhas, Avenida Rodrigues de Freitas, Associação dos moradores de São Vítor and Alameda das Fontainhas. Facing the east side of the building is the old Sanatorium  “Asilo da   Misericórdia”, and to the south is the access to the Infante D. Henrique bridge.

The building has 2 independent passages:  the service is on the first floor of Rua das Fontainhas, through a lower entrance, clearly connected to the corner of the south facade, leading to a   reception space allocated to the restaurant.

The land on which the building is located has a steep slope on the back of the street, which forms a different facet on the front compared to the back, allowing a covered private garage in the basement.

Part of the first floor is located in the middle of the basement, forming a stone wall, which in turn places emphasis on the building and its scale, diversifying the rare types of parking spaces in the center of Porto.

The facade of the building is designed to mimic the verticality in the facade of “Rua das Fontainhas”, creating windows with regular vertical laws, and some balconies make the necessary shadows. The entity   creates the necessary  continuity   according to the requirements of the adjacent building “Asilo da Misericórdia”, thus maintaining continuity with

the existing building, and clarifying the relationship between the new building and the pre-existing ones.

There are 2 independent passages:  the service will enter the first floor of “Rua das Fontainhas”  through the ground-floor entrance, connected to the corner of the south facade, leading to the reception area with stairs and elevated. The underground parking lot can be accessed through the south facade.

On the basement floor (-1st floor), there is a garage for parking. It consists of 22 apartments between T0 and T1. The kitchenette is equipped with a refrigerator, dishwasher, stove or stove cabinet, microwave, kitchen utensils, and smoke evacuator.

There is a check-in/reception area (providing face-to-face service), a storage area, and a staff area consisting of a dressing room and a dressing room on the -1 floor. There is a „service cup“ on each floor. For users with disabilities, there is also a small part.

The base is made of granite and the high-rise walls are covered with paint-coated thermally conductive plaster.

The roof is made of Marselha-type clay bricks, according to the traditional architectural system, blending with the architectural language of Porto city center. According to the existing roof of the building next door, the “Asilo da Misericórdia”, the flat roof facing east is on a cobblestone road. The window frames are made of white-painted wood, with double glazing and thermal cutting.

LOBBY

It was for those who believe that the magic is in
the details, that we’ve projected our beautiful and
impactful lobby. Where bright red, bumblebee yellow
and navy blue furniture pieces and artwork contrast
against the Portuguese rich blue azulejo tiles that
adorn our walls.

The Mondrian like color palette brings out the
sense of effervescent modernity. It highlights the
the contemporary side of the Porto city, and at the same
time brings us back to the Portuguese intangible
heritage. Our light features resemble Saint John’s
balloons, made of multi-colored paper, which are
released on the night of the summer festivities
of Saint John, painting the sky with hundreds of
fascinating lights.

This colorful theme contrasts perfectly with the
soothing color of the oak wood floorings, enveloping
the lobby in a sand-like calming atmosphere, perfect
to relax after a long day of enjoying the city’s
wonders.

Should be noted that the interior design might be
subject to minor changes during the execution works.

HALLWAY

The large geometrical mirrored doors that divide
the lobby from the hallway, alongside the blue
traditional azulejo tiles that cover the walls halfway
contribute to bringing a delightful ambiance to the
space. The design choices count with a black and
white pattern carpet, resembling the geometric
Portuguese tiling, bringing out a special touch of
singularity and snugness.

And since tradition is an important part of what we
do, the hallway walls are also adorned with charming
artworks and prints of two of the city’s most well
known elements, the Luis I bridge and the Saint
John’s balloons.
