- ESDC will process the application, and upon approval, the positive decision will be sent to you.
- A copy of the approved LMIA, along with the employment contract, will be forwarded to the designated overseas Visa Office.
- Our Immigration consultant will then proceed to apply for a work permit and temporary visa for the intended nanny.
- Upon approval, the nanny will submit their passport to the Visa office, where they will be granted a visa and temporary work permit.

Who Qualifies for the Live-In Caregiver Program in Canada?
The Live-In Caregiver Program (LCP) in Canada is designed for foreign nationals seeking employment as caretakers/nannies for Canadian citizens’ children or individuals with disabilities within their homes. This program offers a direct pathway to obtaining permanent residency. After two years of experience under the LCP work permit, applicants can apply for permanent residence.
Eligibility Criteria for the Live-In Caregiver Program:
Hold a valid work permit, applied for a work permit extension, or applied for status restoration as a worker in Canada. Possess work experience in Canada as a Home Child Care provider or a Home Support Worker. Accumulate at least 1 year of full-time work experience since November 30, 2014, which can be non-continuous but must exclude student work experience. Engage in a job aligning with the duties listed in your NOC code. Demonstrate language proficiency equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 or NLCL (French language) 5 in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Possess at least a Canadian High School Diploma or an equivalent foreign diploma, certificate, or credential.
Guidelines for Live-In Caregivers:
Carry out a minimum of 30 hours of full-time caregiving for children under 18, persons with disabilities, or elderly individuals within the household. Reside and work professionally within the home without supervision or assistance. Meet requirements set by CIC and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, including fluency levels demonstrating independence in an unsupervised environment and completion of full-time training for at least 6 months.
Application Process for the Live-In Caregiver Program:
The LCP is presently closed for new applicants. If you lack an LCP work permit and intend to work as a caregiver in Canada, you must apply for a regular work permit.
Permanent Residency Application for Live-In Caregivers:
To qualify for permanent residency under the LCP:
Work a minimum of 2 years in authorized full-time live-in employment in Canada. Accumulate 3900 hours of authorized full-time live-in employment, including 390 hours of overtime duty. Ensure that the work experience is acquired within four years of your arrival date.
Note: Your application may be affected if you or your family members have a criminal record, serious medical issues, or pose security risks, or if you provide false information to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada.
